Aaaaand... I'm back. Had to take a couple of weeks off to get some personal stuff taken care of and with all that being done I can once again devote myself to the local music scene and all that it entails.
So, first things first, Coyote Joe's/Annie's Attic remains closed indefinitely... which makes me very sad, although I guess I was expecting that sort of outcome for the time being. The good guys at Lyzzard's Lounge have totally stepped up to take over some of the existing weekly happenings (such as open mic night, etc.) and to provide outstanding entertainment with some of our favorite local bands as well as a plethora of new ones. Thank you Daniel, for making all of this happen.
So we are looking at another phenomenal weekend ahead. Plenty of great music, lots of fun things to partake in, many opportunities for dancing, no excuses... just come out and enjoy what our community has to offer.
Hooligan's pub will play host to the amazing band Funk Frequency. If you like disco and funk (and honestly, who doesn't?) this will be right up your alley. If you haven't seen these guys yet, do yourselves a favor and at least stop by for a couple of songs, I guarantee you'll not want to leave. They will perform both nights from 9 p.m. until the midnight hour.
Another one of my personal favorites, Whiskey Rodeo, will perform at the Drunken Lass Friday night beginning at 9 p.m. These guys are outstanding musicians who deliver each time without fail. Plus, they're going to be moving to Texas, so here's your chance to catch them, because who knows when they'll be back to grace us with their presence.
Lyzzard's Lounge caters to the hip-hop crowd on Friday with a DJ. Saturday will showcase that awesome, three-piece acoustic folk rock band, Fish out of Water, another band that I highly recommend you go check out, because they are THAT good. Also at Lyzzard's on Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m.: BeckyFest, a regular event showcasing female musicians... a definite must-see for all music aficionados.
Jersey Lilly's will keep you stuck on the dance floor with the golden oldies tunes of Little Larry and the Drive both nights from 8 until midnight. Fantastic, danceable, fun music, no matter what genre you usually prefer.
Country fans out there, fret not, as Matt's Saloon will have Chad Freeman and Redline performing both nights beginning at 9 p.m. So put on your boots and hats and get ready for some two-stepping fun.
Karl Jones, Irish crooner extraordinaire, will entertain at the Celtic Crossings Friday night beginning at 7 pm.
Last but not least, the annual Oktoberfest, put on by the local Eagles Aerie 3600, takes place on Saturday from noon to 7 p.m. right on Gurley Street. With over 70 different beers, a variety of foods, and not to forget, great live music (think Filabusta and others) beginning at 2:30, you can't miss out.
So there are still plenty of fun things to occupy our weekends. I hope to see you all out there on one of the various dance floors ... look me up! Ciao!
