Well, you all certainly didn't let the rainy weather deter you from having loads of fun last weekend. And it would have been a shame to miss out on all the fantastic music Prescott, as usual, had to offer. I only went out on Saturday, because that way I had a chance to see the most bands in one night, and that kept me busy enough.
My evening started early at Tis, the Art Center/Gallery above Bill's Pizza. Road One South, our favorite local blues band, hosted a 'fan'tastic fan appreciation party, complete with food, great music, guest musicians, and a raffle. The place was packed, and I think even the band members didn't quite anticipate the large number of people streaming through those doors. It was a phenomenal evening, with people dancing and mingling, enjoying pizza from Bill's, and just having a great time. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the guys at Bill's Pizza not only for some wonderful pizza, but also for definitely providing some of the best customer service I have experienced in a very long time. Friendly and continuously willing to lend a hand, everybody working there effortlessly made me feel like a valued friend. Thank you for that.
After the party I headed over to Lyzzard's Lounge, where the elusive Sweet Nasty band entertained in their usual amazing fashion. Oh, but I love those guys, and I just wish they would perform much more frequently. But then again, it makes it all the more special to know that their appearances are so far and few between!
Hooligan's Pub was playing host to The CheekTones, which was another band I wasn't about to miss. It's been hard to see my favorite bands what with the lack of venues and such, so I don't care how many miles (this might be a slight exaggeration) I have to log to see them all when they're playing. And of course they didn't disappoint.
Not to be outdone, Scottie's featured my fave 70's band, Funk Frequency, which really just rounded out the evening. It was a spectacular Saturday that had me running in circles to see all these fantastic bands. I am so very grateful to all of these bands, to each and every one of these fantastic musicians, for continuously providing us such outstanding entertainment.
Friday night brings a very special treat at 8 p.m. at the Raven Café - the first gig of the New Band. As of yet nameless, this band features local musicians who are certainly well-known, namely Ed Flaherty on guitar and Dave Sorensen on drums, Beni Garcia on acoustic guitar/vocals, and Robert Israel on bass. Don't miss it - they are PHENOMENAL! Also on Friday: The Jukes at Scottie's beginning at 9.
The Mods perform at Hooligan's Pub both nights at 9, and if you are so inclined, Matt's Saloon will have their annual Superbowl Party on Sunday at 2 p.m., and that is always a hugely entertaining event. So we are looking ahead to another busy, busy weekend with lots of great music! Hope to see you all out and about on one of those dance floors! Ciao!
