As Nolan Sturdevant sang "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" during a recent concert at the courtyard of the Old Firehouse Plaza in Prescott, people stopped to listen, families gathered, and children danced nearby.

Sturdevant, a Prescott native whose sound has been compared to Alan Jackson, sang several recent country hits and classics.

"It gives me so much joy when I see the reaction on people's faces when I'm singing," Sturdevant said. "A lot of people emotionally connect with the songs and I like seeing that."

Joe Reilly said they had come down to the Firehouse Grill for dinner and stopped by to enjoy Sturdevant's music and see his new video.

Sturdevant debuted his new video "The Trouble with Girls" that was shot on the Courthouse Plaza and Kayla Becker, who was in the video said that's her favorites song that Sturdevant performs. The video can be found on YouTube.

"Kayla initially didn't want to be in the video, so I told her a bunch of girls would be in it, but she was the only one who showed up," Sturdevant said. "We had the whole video planned out, but a lot of the shots that made it in were of us just talking."

Sturdevant released his first album "Country Dreams" last year and said he plans on releasing a new album in the spring called "You and I" that features love songs. For more information and further performances, go online to www.facebook.com/NolanSturdevant.

"When I heard he was performing tonight I came out to support him. He's such a talented young man," said Robbie Heintzman.

Heintzman said she and Sturdevant performed together this year in Rock 'n Roll Revisited, in which he portrayed Ricky Nelson, and they'll both be in the Prescott Opry on Jan. 17.

"His passion for what he does is contagious," said Jennifer Rice of Prescott.

Sturdevant graduated from Prescott High School in 2010, was a finalist in Prescott Idol the past two years, and was among the top eight performers in the Texaco Country Showdown 2012.

Sturdevant said he plans to audition for American Idol and X Factor, and he hopes to move to Nashville, Tennessee in a year or two.

"I figure someone has got to make it, so why can't it be me," Sturdevant said.

Sturdevant said he's thankful his family supports his dreams, and they showed up in force for his concert.

"He loves singing to his nieces, and he sang lullabies on CDs for each of the girls," said Brandi Hopper, Sturdevant's sister-in-law.

MJ Maystadt, co-owner of the Hot Spot Nail Spa at Old Firehouse Plaza, said Sturdevant may be young, but his music is special and they're looking forward to having him perform there during the upcoming Acker Night.

Sturdevant encourages young people who want a career in music to go for it.

"If you have a passion, do it," Sturdevant said.
